BI.ZONE CESP enables customized protection of corporate email

Now users can configure more than 20 parameters to filter their incoming and outgoing correspondence
August 7, 2023

BI.ZONE Cloud Email Security & Protection (BI.ZONE CESP) is a service that defends companies from spam, phishing, and malware. With the latest update, BI.ZONE CESP allows its users to address the threats specific to their business and improve resistance to external attacks and attempted data breaches. The rate of false positives does not exceed 0.02%, meaning that only 2 out of 10,000 letters are quarantined by mistake.

The built‑in mail filtering rules are now complemented with a flexible mechanism for generating spam ratings. This functionality helps to decide whether a given message should be admitted to the inbox. The user can configure over 20 parameters, such the sender’s domain, subject, in‑body links, attachment file names, etc. Depending on what parameters have been given higher importance, the spam rating of certain messages can go up or down. For instance, incoming messages with links to public file sharing websites or outgoing messages with attached scans containing company seals can be considered more suspicious. This new feature of BI.ZONE CESP is typical for DLP (data loss prevention), a class of solutions that detect and prevent sensitive data breaches.

The updated BI.ZONE CESP has improvements in its defense mechanisms. For instance, the ML algorithms now process more data sources: not only the body of the email, but also the subject line, links in the text, and service headers (sender and recipient addresses, encodings, etc.).

In the new version of BI.ZONE CESP, each user has a unique profile based on the number of emails the user sends and receives daily. This allows for an accurate detection of anomalous activity that may indicate an incoming attack or an account compromise. We have improved the systems for searching malicious code and phishing links. Our password enumeration algorithm for secure archives has also improved. Finally, our service now can recognize Unicode spoofing, which is becoming an increasingly popular method of forging senders’ addresses.

According to BI.ZONE research, the number of phishing emails has grown 2.5 times since January this year. To better trace such attacks, the new BI.ZONE CESP enables employees to alert their security teams of suspicious messages. Such messages can be flagged directly in the email client interface—an automatic notification is delivered to the tech support right away. This action also increases the message sender’s spam rating. The new opportunity has become available thanks to the integration with BI.ZONE Security Fitness, a solution for preventing social engineering attacks.

The new BI.ZONE CESP has an improved capability for monitoring public reputation lists. Companies whose IP addresses are included in such lists may have a hard time delivering their correspondence to recipients and experience business continuity issues. With BI.ZONE CESP, the email traffic is dispatched from BI.ZONE IP addresses, not those of the customer. Therefore, if one of the company’s addresses is mistakenly blacklisted, our team will get in touch with the reputation list owners and fix the problem. With this approach, companies can rest assured that their outgoing mail will reach its destination.
